One of the red-listed species here in The Netherlands is the Grey Partridge. Since 1990 the breeding population has declined with no less than 80%. Especially in the area where I live,  one hardly encounters them anymore. So it’s always great to find some – as I did last week. Shy as they are, they are pretty good at hiding themselves, as you can tell from the pictures…. Patience however, usually makes them coming out of hiding and continue with whatever it is the day (mainly feeding) 😉

Een van de rode-lijst-soorten in Nederland is de Patrijs. Sinds 1990 is de broedpopulatie met maar liefst 80% afgenomen (bron: Sovon). Zeker hier in de omgeving zie je ze eigenlijk nauwelijks meer. Dus is het altijd een klein feestje als je er een aantal tegenkomt – zoals ik vorige week deed. Schuw als ze zijn, weten ze zich altijd goed te verstoppen, zoals je ook wel aan de foto’s kan zien…. Met wat geduld echter komen ze meestal wel weer langzaam te voorschijn en hervatten ze, wat het dan ook is, waar ze mee bezig waren (voornamelijk foerageren)  😉
