It has been a while since I was able to add a new species to my list. This morning I received a text message from a friend (Brigitte: bedankt!) that a Siberian Chiffchaff (Siberische Tjiftjaf) had been spotted in Leiden. So I jumped in the car. Some people were already around, and after 10 minutes we found the bird again and I was even able to make some shots of this little fellow. Quite restless it never sat for more than a second. Nevertheless it was great seeing and hearing it ! Sometimes one has to be a little lucky in these things….
Later today I went back to the owl spot, hoping to see the Sparrow-hawks again. After a while I found both the male and female again, and though the female was waiting for an act of mating, the male (at some 20 meters distance) didn’t respond to her call. I left me with some shots, but not the so-much-hoped-for action shot…

[...] Na afloop van de lessen fiets ik weer langs het LUMC. Hier tref ik Ferry Ossendorp, Hans Overduin en Brigitte Wieles. Zij hebben de Siberische tjiftjaf kort tevoren nog gezien, maar ze vertellen me dat het er erop lijkt dat deze zich naar aangrenzende tuinen heeft verplaatst. We verspreiden ons en na een minuut of vijf zie ik, terwijl ik met Brigitte sta te praten, de “tjif” opeens door mijn blikveld dwarrelen. Ik heb geen verrekijker bij me, maar als de vogel begint te zingen, is het duidelijk dat het om de “Sib. tjif” gaat. Brigitte haalt snel Ferry en Hans op. Ik maak wat “filmopnames“, niet voor het beeld, maar voor het geluid en Hans maakt een aantal prachtige foto’s! [...]
