Last week I decided to go for a ‘twitch’ again. A Desert Wheatear was spotted close to our international airport, Schiphol (Amsterdam). It would be my fourth in The Netherlands, number five in all if I include the one I shot in North-Africa. Rarities attract the crowds, so usually making nice shots is not that easy. This bird however, as some of the previous once I saw in The Netherlands, was not shy at all and every now and them showed itself up close. Funny, how almost yearly one of those little vagrants turn up in our country; they should be somewhere in Africa by now. Searching my archives my shots turned out not to be among the worst I took of the species over the years, so pretty happy with the result 🙂 .

Vorige week besloot ik maar weer eens op een ‘twitch’ af te gaan. Er was namelijk een Woestijntapuit gezien bij Schiphol. Het zou mijn vierde voor Nederland worden, en mijn vijfde als ik Noord-Afrika erbij tel. Zeldzaamheden trekken de massa, dus normaalgesproken is het lastig om een beetje aardige foto’s te maken. Deze vogel was, zoals zijn meeste voorgangers die ik zag in Nederland, totaal niet schuw en hij liet zich af en toe van dichtbij bewonderen. Grappig hoe bijna elk jaar wel een exemplaar opduikt in ons land. Ze zouden eigenlijk in Afrika moeten zitten nu. Toen ik door mijn archieven ging, bleek dat het niet eens de beroerdste plaatjes waren geworden die ik in de loop der jaren heb gemaakt, dus ik was best tevreden met het resultaat 🙂 .
