Last week, for the first time I found a Red-necked Grebe that really lived up to its name. No surprise, as these birds usually breed abroad. They are normally found in our country during winter. Hence, the ones that I had seen in The Netherlands so far were always in winter plumage. Always great to see the odd bird with the name nicely matching the species, in this case with a red neck. The bird stayed quite a bit away from the banks of the lake, so most images are cropped. That said, still happy with them 🙂 .

Vorige week vond ik voor het eerst een Roodhalsfuut die zijn naam eer aan deed. Niet zo verwonderlijk, aangezien deze vogels voornamelijk in het buitenland broeden. Ze worden in ons land hoofdzakelijk in het winter. Logisch dus dat de exemplaren die ik tot nu toe had gezien in Nederland altijd in winterkleed waren. Maar het is altijd leuk weer eens een vogel te zien die er gewoon uitziet zoals zijn naam doet vermoeden, in dit geval dus met een rode hals. De vogel bleef wel op enige afstand van de oever, dus de meeste foto’s zijn gecropt. Desondanks, toch blij mee 🙂 .
