Finally over the last days there has been some activity in the area. Even though it still feels like winter, more and more birds are becoming active – building nests, mating and well, just being there. Yesterday I spent some time in the fields again, and saw many different birds. The biggest surprise was probably a Brown Hare (Haas) running after some Common Snipes (Watersnip). The latter were abundant, but hiding most of the time, only by the end of the day they showed themselves. Without a camouflaged shelter however, they can not really be approached – alert as they are by nature. While lying motionless in a wet field, a White Wagtail was hopping around me, however most of the time too close to focus :~( …..
In between appointments

Common Starling looking like a Christmas Package …..
Yesterday I had several appointments in the middle of the country. Of course I brought my camera equipment, hoping to do some shooting in between. Traffic however took up most of my spare moments, but still I was able to shoot some Starlings (Spreeuw) and some White Wagtails (Witte Kwikstaart). Also a Buzzard flew by briefly… And that was it for the day

Parental Responsibilities

The last couple of days I was abroad, but before I left and after I returned I checked upon the Sparrow-hawks (Sperwer). They still seem to do well: mother is killing like crazy to provide enough food, whereas the two youngster scream for food once they notice that the Catering Service has arrived. In-between meals, the mother takes some quick naps and cleans herself. A White Wagtail (Witte Kwikstaart) in the nearby harbor has some young outside the nesting place and still one on the inside, which keeps this mother busy as well.. Soon however, it will all be over and the young birds will have to find their own way in life…..
