Cuba boasts six species of Woodpeckers, one of which is allegedly extinct (last recorded in 1987). So that makes five. Of those five I managed to see and photograph three, among them the endemic Cuban Green Woodpecker. You can see them in this blog. The one in the opening shot is calling: the bill slightly parted and vibrating with it’s whole body: a loud call is the result. Great to watch 🙂 . More diversity however can be seen in cars. Cuba is (still) famous for it’s fleet of american oldtimers – in the most amazing colors, shapes and states. No wonder that I returned home with hundreds of pictures featuring cars or parts of them… I also noticed that my camera has a built-in ‘shift and tilt’ function, which of course works excellent with colorful cars 😉 .

Cuba heeft zes soorten Spechten, waarvan er één waarschijnlijk is uitgestorven (voor het laatst gezien in 1987). Dus dan zijn er nog vijf. Van die vijf heb ik er drie kunnen zien en fotograferen, waaronder de endemische Cubaanse Groene Specht. Ook de andere twee zie je in dit blog. De specht in de openingsfoto roept: de snavel licht geopend en trillend met het hele lichaam. Een zeer luide roep is het resultaat. Geweldig om te zien 🙂 . Meer diversiteit is er echter in de auto’s op Cuba. Het land staat (nog) bekend om zijn Amerikaanse oldtimers – in de meest fantastische kleuren, vormen en staat van onderhoud. Geen wonder dat ik thuiskwam met honderden foto’s waarin in auto’s of gedeelten daarvan zijn te zien… Ik ontdekte trouwens ook dat mijn camera een ingebouwde ’tilt and shift’ functie heeft, die natuurlijk prachtig werkt bij vrolijk gekleurde autootjes 😉 .
