Of course, I knew that I had seen three species of Phalaropes until now. What I didn’t know, was that this is also the end of it. The Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World showed me that there are only three species around: Red -, Red-necked – and Wilson’s Phalarope. Nice to be complete for a change. Although: maybe seeing them all someday in breeding plumage would make it really a box ticker 😉 ….

Natuurlijk wist ik wel dat ik drie soorten Franjepoten had gezien tot nu toe. Maar wat ik niet wist, is dat het daarmee ook direct klaar is. De Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World laat namelijk zien dat er maar drie soorten bestaan: de Grauwe-, Rosse – en Grote Franjepoot. Leuk om een keertje compleet te zijn voor de verandering. Hoewel: misschien moet ik ze allemaal nog een keer in zomerkleed zien voordat ik ze écht af kan vinken 😉 ….
