Enige tijd geleden was ik bijna dagelijks op het strand te vinden. Niet om een kleurtje op te doen, maar vanwege de langstrekkende steltlopers. En het leuke was, dat het bijna per dag verschilde wat ik er aantrof. Eén van de soorten die er af en toe zag was de Zilverplevier. Klinkt spannend, maar het is toch wel een vrij kleurloos beest, zeker tijdens sombere dagen. Hij heet natuurlijk niet voor niets ‘Grey Plover’ in het Engels. Vogels met zo’n naam? Meestal geen goed teken. Daarnaast zijn ze ook nog vrij schuw. Tel uit je winst. Op één van mijn bezoeken kleurde de lucht echter fantastisch, op een gegeven moment bijna naar een soort van roze. Kijk, dan krijgt zo’n plevier natuurlijk opeens een heel andere uitstraling. En, eerlijk is eerlijk, een beetje kitsch foto’s op zijn tijd? Niks mis mee hoor! Sterker nog: ik werd er helemaal vrolijk van. Toen ik thuis kwam, heb ik dan ook direct een hoodie besteld van Adidas in de kleur “Ambient Blush” (zie laatste foto). Want je moet zulke fijne momenten natuurlijk zo lang mogelijk vasthouden. Toch?
A while ago you could find me on the beach on an almost daily basis. Not to get a tan, but because of the migrating waders. The nice thing was, that the ‘supply’ varied day by day. One of the species I ran into every now and then was the Grey Plover. Not all that exciting , as it is quite a non-descript bird, especially during clouded days. Hence the name, I guess – it surely didn’t get that by accident. Birds with ‘grey’ in it are almost always bad news for the photographer. Besides its dull colouring, it also tends to be rather shy. Count your blessings. During one of my visits though, the skies took on fantastic colours, leaning at one moment almost towards pink. In such circumstances, the plover seems to get a totally different look. And let’s be honest, a little ‘kitsch’ every now and then in one’s images? Nothing wrong with that ! Actually, it got me in a really good mood. So, when I returned back home, I immediately ordered an Adidas hoodie in the color “Ambient Blush” (see last image). Since one should hold on to such moments as long as one can, right?
