The last years I paid several visits to Antelope Island, a State Park in northern Utah. The park is an island in the Great Salt Lake, and – although I go there mainly because of the birding – it’s main attraction is the Bison herd (some 700 individuals). Besides these enormous animals, the park also hosts other mammals, of which the Pronghorn Antelope and the Mule Deer are most frequently seen. Since the birding turned out to be relatively slow this year, I also spend some time with these mammals and tried to frame them in their habitat… Of course I couldn’t neglect the nice Bison statue at the Visitor Center 🙂

De afgelopen jaren heb ik diverse bezoeken gebracht aan Antelope Island, een State Park in het noorden van Utah. Het park is eigenlijk een eiland, dat ligt het Great Salt Lake, en heeft als hoofdattractie de kudde Bizons (ongeveer 700 dieren) –  hoewel ik er voornamelijk naartoe ga voor de vogels. Naast deze indrukwekkende dieren herbergt het gebied ook andere zoogdieren zoals Gaffelbokken en Muildierherten.  Aangezien het vogelen niet heel veel opleverde dit jaar, heb ik ook wat tijd doorgebracht met het fotograferen van deze soorten en geprobeerd ze te portretteren in hun natuurlijke omgeving… Uiteraard kon ik het standbeeld van een Bizon bij het bezoekerscentrum niet overslaan 🙂
