A while ago I wrote about Billy in the City, a Spoonbill close to our home. Last month we spent a weekend with friends in the province of Zeeland. We had rented a holiday home with a nice garden and a pond. During our first evening, we suddenly noticed a Spoonbill landing next to the pond. The bird started feeding and drinking at first, after which it started preening for quite a long time. I hurried outside and made some shots, but it was almost dark. However, it turned out to be a twice daily behaviour. At least during the time of our stay. So the next morning during breakfast, when the bird came again, I didn’t hesitate. I went outside, barefoot in pyjama bottoms and a T-shirt – thinking ‘no time to waste’. And this time I got quite some shots. I noticed only afterwards that it was quite a cold morning for dressing like this 🙂 . This ‘extra’ was not mentioned on the website of the company renting out these holiday homes. So, quite unexpectedly, I was able to make some frame filling shots of a friendly and cooperative Billy. Curious where I will meet my next Billy 😉 ….

Een tijdje geleden schreef ik over Billy in the City, een Lepelaar dichtbij ons huis. Vorige maand brachten we een weekend met vrienden door in Zeeland. We hadden een vakantiehuisje gehuurd met een mooie tuin en een vijver. Tijdens onze eerste avond, zagen we plotseling een Lepelaar naast de vijver landen. De vogel ging wat foerageren en drinken, waarna hij zicht lange tijd rustig ging zitten poetsen. Ik haastte me naar buiten en maakte wat foto’s, maar het was al bijna donker. Het bleek echter een ritueel dat tweemaal daags plaatsvond. Althans, tijdens ons verblijf. Dus, toen de volgende morgen de vogel tijdens het ontbijt weer langskwam aarzelde ik geen seconde en ging ik onmiddellijk naar buiten. In T-shirt, pyamabroek en op blote voeten – geen tijd te verliezen immers. En deze keer maakte behoorlijk wat foto’s. Pas daarna drong het tot me door dat het eigenlijk best koud was om zo naar buiten te gaan 🙂 .  Deze extra attractie stond niet op de website van de huisjesverhuurder vermeld. Dus, eigenlijk onverwacht, kon ik beeldvullende foto’s maken van deze vriendelijke en meewerkende Lepelaar. Ben benieuwd waar ik mijn volgende ‘Billy’ tegen zal komen 😉 ….
