Birding from a Boat

photocrati galleryLast week I was for a short visit in Thailand. Although spending lots of time on land, I made some of my more interesting shots from a boat. The first time was on a lake in Bang Pra Non Hunting Area, where we rented a small boat and tried to take pictures from bee-eaters, kingfisher and the like from the lake’s side. This gave us better light conditions, but also allowed us to get closer to the birds. Some loud singing Plain Prinia was the highlight for me. Another boat I boarded was a treadmill Swan on a small lake in Lumpini Park, smack in the center of Bangkok. To my surprise there was a Common Kingfisher down there, which – disguised as a swan – I could approach relatively well 😉

  1. Absolutely marvelous captures Hans! Believe it or not, I’ve yet to find the time to go through and process any of mine, but seeing these great shots of yours (and the Sunbirds!) serves as an encouraging reminder ;^)

    All the best :^)
