Looking at these images may give the impression that this Tawny Owl is as easy to photograph as the one I recently wrote about. Well, that couldn’t be less far from the truth, unfortunately. First of all, this owl is almost never ‘at home’, meaning that some estimated 95% of the time you will only stare at a ‘black hole’. And when home, it’s extremely shy, meaning that whenever it decides that there’s too much going on outside, it retreats inside. So, it’s small miracle that, over the course of the last four months, I was able to make some shots at all every now and then ….
Wanneer je naar deze foto’s kijkt zou je de indruk kunnen hebben dat deze Bosuil net zo’n eitje is om te fotograferen als die waar ik onlangs over schreef. Niks is echter minder waar, helaas. Ten eerste is deze uil bijna nooit ‘thuis’, wat betekent dat je zo ongeveer 95% van de keren alleen naar een ‘zwart gat’ staat te kijken. En als ‘ie wel thuis is, dan is deze uil uitermate schuw – wat betekent dat als hij ook maar enigszins niet vertrouwt wat er allemaal buiten gebeurt, hij weer naar binnen gaat. Dus, al met al een kleine wonder dat het me over de loop van de afgelopen vier maanden überhaupt nog gelukt is af en toe wat foto’s te maken ….
