Sinds een aantal jaren hebben wij putters in de wijk. Leuk, want het is een soort die ik voorheen voornamelijk in de ‘buitengebieden’ zag. Inmiddels broeden ze ook in de binnentuin bij onze buren, iets verderop in de straat. Ik zag ze al regelmatig vliegen en achter elkaar aanzitten wanneer ik zat te werken achter mijn bureau. Een tijdje geleden zag ik ze ook opeens hevig plukken aan de lisdoddes die aan de rand van de sloot staan, druk bezig nestmateriaal te verzamelen om zo hun woning wat op te leuken. De combinatie van wat wind en putters die als een bezetene zo’n lisdodde aan het slopen zijn, leverde beelden op die ik alleen maar had van buidelmezen. Ik vraag me trouwens wel af hoe ze met zo baal pluis voor hun neus het nest nog veilig weten te bereiken, maar goed, ze zullen wel weten wat ze doen 😉 

Since some years we have European Goldfinches in our city. Nice, as I used to see this species mainly in the rural areas. Meanwhile they also started breeding in the inner garden of our neighbors, a bit down the street. I already noticed them chasing each other when working behind my desk. Some weeks ago I noticed them plucking ferociously from the cattails that line our ‘canal’, busy collecting nesting material and hence pimp up their home a bit. The combination of light wind and the finches that were demolishing the cattails, made for some images that I only have from Penduline Tits. By the way, I wonder how they make it safely back to the nest as their view seems to be obstructed by these bulky stuff – but I guess they know what they’re doing 😉 …
