Chuckars have been introduced in North-America as a game bird in the 1930’s. One of the places where you can find quite some of these exotic birds is on Antelope Island (Utah). This morning and late afternoon I searched for them and found some. When walking between the grasses they can hardly be found (see image), but they tend to climb boulders on which they stand and scan the environment. Getting down they seem little clumsy though, as you can see in the title photo 😉 . On all my visits to Utah I have seen them, but today was the first time that I could frame some of their chicks as well… Nice for change 🙂

De Aziatische Steenpatrijs is in de jaren dertig in Noord-Amerika geïntroduceerd als jachtvogel. Eén van de plekken waar deze exoten zijn te vinden is op Antelope Island (Utah). Vanochtend en vanmiddag ben ik naar ze op zoek gegaan, en ik heb er een aantal gevonden. Als ze tussen het gras lopen, zijn ze nauwelijks te vinden (zie foto), maar gelukkig hebben zo nogal eens de neiging om bovenop rotsblokken te klimmen om de omgeving te checken. Er vanaf komen doen ze trouwens wel wat onhandig zoals je kunt zien in de titelfoto 😉 . Op al mijn reizen naar Utah heb ik deze soort kunnen zien, maar vandaag kon ik voor het eerst jongen fotograferen. Wel eens leuk voor de afwisseling 🙂
