Dartford Warbler

Estaca de Bares is the hotspot for seabird migration in Europe, so the hardcore seawatchers in our group were there from sunrise to sunset. I joined them for a while for the company, but it’s not really the place to be if you’re after photographs — hence our boat trips. While the ‘scopers’ sat on their little chairs, marvelling at the passing birds, Bouke and I scanned the bushes right behind the migration watchpoint for a species we were keen to see: Dartford Warbler. We found several, but as we know them, they were restless and often deep in the vegetation. On one occasion, a fine male perched briefly on top of a bush, and that was it. Anyway, at least I ended up with some slightly different photos from the last time I saw the species, when it turned up as a vagrant here in the Netherlands.
