This morning I planned for a short visit to one of the places where in the past I was lucky with Kingfishers (IJsvogel). The first observatory I visited wasn’t fruitful, so I moved on to another one. On arrival I found a Western Great Egret (Grote Zilverreiger) that was fishing, as well as some Grey Herons (Blauwe Reiger). The Kingfishers only showed themselves very briefly: close but hidden behind the waving reeds, or further away.. The only real action came from a Grey Heron chasing away a Marsh Harrier (Bruine Kiekendief) from what it probably thought was it’s private island 😉 . All in all an interesting visit, albeit not what I hoped for….
