Om het nieuwe jaar kleurrijk te beginnen, had ik besloten te gaan zoeken of ik de ijsvogel waarmee ik 2025 had afgesloten weer konden vinden. Die vond ik na lang zoeken niet, maar wel op weg naar huis een andere. Helaas zat ‘ie op een plek die niet echt motiveerde om eens lekker los te gaan. Helaas, maar zo gaat het soms. Toen ik even later naar huis liep, hoorde ik opeens een hoge toon: vuurgoudhaan! Wat leuk! Normaal hoor ik die niet altijd, maar nu hoorde ik het geluid zelfs boven het verkeer uit. Geen wonder bleek, want het beestje zat pal naast me in een struik. Om hem te fotograferen moest ik niet alleen de camera uit de rugzak halen, maar ook een paar flinke stappen achteruit doen. De vogels was druk door de struiken aan het hippen, maar het lukte toch een paar keer om ‘m te bevriezen! Het kleurrijke begin was, weliswaar met een andere vogel dan gepland, toch maar mooi gelukt!
To start the new year colorfully, I had decided to go and see whether I could find the kingfisher I had ended 2025 with again. After a long search I didn’t find that one, but on the way home I did come across another. Unfortunately, it was perched in a spot that didn’t really inspire me to really go all out. Too bad, but that’s how it goes sometimes. A little later, as I was walking home, I suddenly heard a high-pitched sound: a firecrest! How nice! Normally I don’t always hear them, but this time the call was audible even above the traffic. No wonder, as the little bird was sitting right next to me in a bush. To photograph it, I not only had to take my camera out of my backpack, but also take a few good steps backward. The bird was hopping busily through the bushes, but I still managed to freeze it in a few shots. The colorful beginning, albeit with a different bird than planned, turned out to be a success after all!
