Zoals je misschien wel eens tussen de regels door hebt gelezen, ben ik niet zo van de groepen. Er zijn mensen die gedijen in gezelschappen, maar mijn motto is toch meestal ‘hoe minder zielen hoe meer vreugd’. Of dan toch in elk geval ‘hoe minder zielen, hoe beter de fotokansen’. Niks persoonlijks hoor en het is nou ook weer niet zo dat ik totaal niet sociaal ingesteld ben (hoop ik althans). Maar met vogels en een camera – ik weet het niet, ik zie het gewoon niet zo gebeuren. Kanoeten daarentegen zitten overduidelijk in het andere kamp: vaak te zien in gezellige groepen. En indien de eigen soort niet in voldoende mate voorhanden is, dan sluiten ze zich net zo gemakkelijk aan bij Rosse Grutto’s, Bonte Strandlopers of wat er op dat moment ook maar in de buurt is. Een paar van die bonte gelegenheidscombinaties kwam ik tegen op het strand. Een strand waar ik overigens heerlijk alleen was – in de verste verte geen ziel te bekennen 😉 …. Dat wil zeggen: tot de wandelaar-met-hond kwam. Maar dat leverde dan wel weer een leuke achtergrond op.

As you may have read between the lines, I am not all that fond of groups. There’s people that thrive on social gatherings, but my motto is most of the time ‘less people is more fun’. Or at least ‘less people is better chances for making nice images’. Nothing personal and it’s not that I am completely unsociable (or so I hope). But with birds and a camera – I don’t know, but I just don’t see it happening. Red Knots obviously are not on my side of the social spectrum: I see them often in cosy groups. And if not among themselves, they don’t seem to have a problem happily joining in with Bar-Tailed Godwits, Dunlins or whatever may be around at the time. Some of those occasional groups I encountered at the beach. Where I was luckily all by myself – not a single soul in sight 😉 …. Until a dog walker came by. But that made for a funny background.
