Flamingos to for me always rank among the exotics birds. Although we have some in The Netherlands every year, I know them mainly from Greece, Spain en Portugal. These images are from the latter country. Having framed them in flight and in the water, I always was looking for some ‘land like’ shot. During my last visit to Portugal, some small islands helped me make some images of the bird without too much water in the frame. Of course, they were still walking in the shallow waters. And yes, I also made in the ‘standing in water’ images. Anyway, I got the shots I wanted and a cooperative Flamingo on top, most images are full frame.

Flamingos reken ik altijd onder de exotische soorten. Hoewel we er elk jaar een aantal hebben in Nederland, ken ik ze vooral uit Griekenland, Spanje en Portugal. Deze foto’s zijn uit het laatste land. Ik had ze al gefotografeerd in vlucht, en staande in het water, maar was altijd nog op zoek naar een soort ‘vaste land’ opname. Tijdens mijn laatste bezoek aan Portugal, hielpen een paar kleine eilandjes bij het maken van een foto van de vogel zonder al teveel zichtbaar water. Natuurlijk, ze staan nog steeds gewoon in ondiep water alleen zie je dat niet. En, uiteraard maakte ik ook weer de ‘staande-in-het-water’ opnames. Nou ja, ik had mijn beelden en nog een meewerkende Flamingo ook, de meeste foto’s zijn full frame.
