Onlangs bracht ik een bezoekje aan het strand in de hoop wat steltlopers te kunnen fotograferen. Tot mijn vreugde trof ik tussen de aanwezigen Bonte Strandlopers en Drieteenstrandlopers ook een groepje Kleine Strandlopers. Een leuke soort, die ik nog niet eerder goed voor de lens had. We kennen ze hier alleen als doortrekkers, onderweg van of naar hun broedgebieden. Ondanks dat ze niet echt schuw waren, renden ze als ongeleide projectielen kriskras alle kanten op, wat het fotograferen nog wel even een dingetje maakte. Er was weinig licht, maar dat gaf dan wel weer de mogelijkheid tot wat high-key achtige foto’s. Maar ondanks dit wat sombere weer, lag ik toch maar weer mooi lekker in een boardshort in het zeewater een beetje vogeltjes te fotograferen. Niks te klagen dus. Wat een leven, de dag kon niet meer stuk !

Recently I paid a visit to the beach, hoping to shoot some waders. To my joy, among the present Dunlins and Sanderlings, I found a small group of Little Stints. A lovely species, which I had never had this good in front of my camera. We only know them as migrating birds here, traveling to to from their breeding areas. Despite the fact that they were not really shy, the ran back and forth like crazy, which made shooting still a challenge though. There was not a lot of light, but this gave the opportunity for some high-key like images. And despite the clouded skies, I was lying – in my board shorts – in the sea water, photographing birds. So, no complaints. What a life – and what a wonderful day !
