The first time I was allowed to vote, I voted PSP (Pacifist Socialist Party). Years later, PSP for me would mean Purple Sand Piper. Interesting how things develop. Anyway. This time of year is good for checking the harbour piers in my hometown for PSP’s. Usually perched against the steep, concrete blocks, they are easily overlooked. But at high tide they are sometimes found a little higher up, which makes for nicer shots in most cases. And, if one is lucky, they show themselves ‘free standing’ – as in this case. 

De eerste keer dat ik mocht stemmen, stemde ik PSP (Pacifistisch Socialistische Partij). Nu, jaren later, denk ik bij deze afkorting vooral aan de engelse naam voor de Paarse Strandloper (Purple Sandpiper). Het kan raar lopen. Enfin. In deze tijd van het jaar is het de moeite waard om de havenhoofden in mijn woonplaats te checken op deze PSP’s. Meestal zitten ze tegen de stijle betonblokken aan, waardoor je gemakkelijk over het hoofd kan zien. Maar, bij hoogtij zitten ze soms wat hogerop, waardoor mooiere foto’s mogelijk zijn – althans meestal. En, als je mazzel hebt, laten ze zich zelfs geheel ‘vrijstaand’ zien, zoals in dit geval.
