Red Phalarope

photocrati galleryThis morning after spending some time in my home office, I decided to go to the sea. This time of year a lot of migration is going on. The wind however was not ideal, so besides some Red-breasted Mergansers and Skua’s not much was happening. Menno texted me that a Red Phalarope had been sighted near Katwijk, so I went there instead. Arriving after the sun disappeared and only clouds were left, I still managed to make quite a lot of shots of this very tiny bird. And you can see how tiny it is, compared to the giants lying on the beach (photo by Joost van der Sluijs). They are not shy at all, but extremely busy – so hard to follow with the camera.. Anyway, I ended up with a number of shots, of which these are probably the best…
