Terwijl een deel van Europa gebukt gaat onder de hitte, en ook hier weer warme dagen in aantocht zijn, ben ik af en toe nog bezig de foto’s van een korte trip naar Marokko, eerder dit jaar, uit te zoeken. Zo kwam ik ook bij deze grote lijsters. Hoewel ik hier in mijn eigen omgeving over de zanglijsters struikel, en ze naar mijn idee soms dag en nacht hoor zingen, kom ik grote lijsters een stuk minder vaak tegen. Leuk dus, dat we deze soort tegenkwamen in de Hoge Atlas, helemaal omdat het lichtjes sneeuwde. Lijsters in de sneeuw zijn natuurlijk niet te versmaden. En met wat geduld lieten ze zich ook nog redelijk fotograferen, aanvankelijk voorzichtigheidshalve vanuit de auto, maar later ook gewoon ‘out in the open’. Natuurlijk niet een soort waarvoor je speciaal naar Marokko zou afreizen, maar toch meer dan welkom als bijvangst 🙂 !

As much of Europe is suffering from heatwaves, and with warm days expected here again as well, I now and then continue sorting through the images from a short trip to Morocco earlier this year. While doing so, I came across these Mistle Thrushes. Although I see more than enough Song Thrushes on my home turf, and can easily imagine hearing them sing day and night, I encounter Mistle Thrushes much less frequently. All the nicer, then, that we found some in the High Atlas, especially with a light dusting of snow. Thrushes in the snow are hard to resist. With a little patience, they eventually showed themselves very well: first from the comfort of our car, and later also out in the open. Certainly not a species you would travel to Morocco specifically to see, but more than welcome as a ‘collateral’ subject 🙂 !
