The Hunter and the Hunted

The last part of the mouse disappearing into the Kestrel….

The Kestrels (Torenvalk) need to catch quite some food now. Their young are already hunting by themselves, but get extra supplies from the parents. In the photo-sequence you can see how the bird hovers in the air searching for prey. After some failed attempts it caught a mouse, but flew of to a different (and uglier) perch than I had anticipated on. So by the time I arrived the head was already torn of.  As usual the intestines were eaten after that, and finally the lower part of the mouse disappeared in some big gulps 😉 . A misery moment for the mouse, but for the Kestrel and it’s photographer actually not too bad….
