Willing Woodchat Shrike

photocrati galleryDue to a combination of warm weather and a (north)easterly wind, some (very) rare visitors are in the Netherlands at the moment. As already posted last weekend we had the Dotterel, and yesterday I had a look at a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, a resident of North America. This afternoon I found out that a Woodchat Shrike had been sighted some 14km from my home. I went there quickly and had a great time seeing this beautiful shrike. First timer for me 🙂 ! A resident of Southern Europe, he for some reason found his way to our area. Although perched rather far away, I could be observed pretty well and even showed it’s bumble-bee catching skills…
